Day 4

Yellowstone day!!!! This was the one thing that was a must during our visit. I didn't care if we did nothing else but go to the National Park. I had been looking forward to this for so long!

The ride to the park is really nice. Lots of winding roads through the mountains.

There are a lot of areas damaged by fire both in the park and outside of the park. It's really sad to see.

We got to the town of West Yellowstone around 10:30am. It was about an hour and a half drive from the guest house. It is the West entrance to the park. Entry fee to the park is $25 and for the first hour or so of the trip we were starting to think it was a big waste of money. And then voila! We came across some geysers, followed by wildlife and many more geysers and by the end of the day the entry fee is quite the bargain.

These are bubbling pools of water and they are found nearly everywhere in Yellowstone.

Some are the most gorgeous shades of blue.

We made it to Old Faithful and hunted down somewhere to eat. There are three lodges in this area and they all had restaurants. So we found a cafe that had "fast food" and ordered up some chicken sandwiches.
We found a good seat to watch Old Faithful and waited for the big moment. Luckily we waited it out because it went off 20 minutes earlier then they were predicting. What a marvelous sight!

Afterwards we headed towards the North entrance and decided that we were not stopping for anymore geysers that we had had enough of those. Being that there is so much to see and we only had the one day we had to limit what we did and see or we would never get out of the park.

Buffalo walking down the road. Those things are huge! Easily 3x bigger then the ones you see people raising on farms.

10 point mule deer with the velvet still on his rack.

Elk eating in a recent fire area near Yellowstone Lake.

We made it to the North entrance at 7:00. There was a lot we did not have time to stop for and two sides of the park that we did not make it to. But we will save that for another trip. We had a two hour ride home from there.

  1. OMG! I wanted to see a buffalo so bad when I was there, but we only saw them from a distance. Too cool.
