Time to vent

Why are the holidays so stressful? I love Christmas but trying to coordinate plans and please everyone is becoming extremely difficult, nearly impossible, and taking the fun right out of it.

Work: The first year in the office we all exchanged gifts and had a potluck. That was too expensive and stressful. So last year we drew names and ordered food in. That was stressful because if you got stuck with someone that you didn't know much about it made it very hard to shop. So this year we said scrap gifts altogether and lets just have a potluck. Sounds easy right? Wrong.

The Holland/Kalamazoo manager doesn't want to drive in unless we are having a meeting. And we are not having a meeting until after the holidays. It's no fun to have a Christmas potluck after the fact!

So I suggested we just go out for breakfast with just the office staff. Cheap, no clean up, something different. That got shot down because the boss "can't eat a lot in the morning". Are you kidding me?! I've seen him mow through the candy at 9:00 in the morning.

So back to square one. I guess we are ordering in lunch next week and whomever wants to join can and if they'd rather not fine.......

Didn't know everything had to be made into such a damn production.

I won't even get into the family holiday plans. Let's just say that my dramatic mother-in-law always has to throw a wrench in and make a whole lot of something out of nothing. I let S deal with this and believe that we have found a solution that we all can live with.

Next year: Vacation away from home??????

  1. Have you seen 4 Christmas' ? No wonder people leave for vacation instead of celebrating the holiday with family. My family, I guess, is really low key, but I still find it stressful to find that "perfect" gift for everyone on the list.

  2. No, the movie is on my Christmas list. My family is really laid back. S's on the other hand are the total opposite!
