S and I finally tried out the new D&W this past weekend. We counted down the weeks for this moment waiting to give Meijer the 'ole heave ho. First we waited because Meijer was giving some awesome coupons that we really couldn't pass up. Then they had this thing where you collect a point each week and after four points you get $25 off your order. I am a savings hound and couldn't possibly pass this up!
Sunday rolled around and we went to check out the new store. It was about 8:00ish in the PM and there was hardly any customers in the store--jackpot! The store looked beautiful from the outside and in.
The pluses:
-beautiful store
-small amount of people
-nice layout and items nicely presented
-very nice staff, I mean go out of your way friendly.
-they had some great deals (baby back ribs for $3.99 a pound, reg. $5.99 a lb. and steaks for $5.99 a pound, folks these usually go for around $13.00 a pound!)
The minuses:
-more expensive (not counting the good deals)
-not much of a variety
-you don't get all the departments like you get at Meijer
-deli meat TRES expensive!
So upon leaving we decided we would go back to Meijer and deal with the crowdidness (word?) and unfriendly staff. And just hit the ole D&W for special items.
Yes there is a Family Fare literally around the corner from us but that is worse then dealing with the people at Meijer. They usually have one lane open, their produce and seafood department is awful, the people are even ruder, and the lines are ridiculous. An apology to my friend J who's hubby works for Spartan stores. We gave it a go but it's just not going to work out. Tell him to get a job with Meijer---just kidding! :-)

I kinda like the Meijer better too, but don't tell anyone..... Actually, I've gotten used to D&W and now have a "route" through the store that you can't mess with, and an employee discount is nothing to shake your finger at. =) Therefore, I guess I've been converted.
